One Truck, Multiple Applications: Zowell Articulated Forklift Optimizes Narrow-Aisle Indoor & Outdoor Logistics

Recently, Zowell successfully delivered an articulated forklift to a leading manufacturer of engineering plastic raw materials in China.

Designed to handle both narrow-aisle warehouse operations and indoor/outdoor material transfer, the solution helps the customer make better use of existing warehouse space, increase storage capacity, and improve overall loading and unloading efficiency.

Zowell Articulated Forklift

Project Background

The customer is an engineering plastic raw material manufacturer whose warehouse needs to accommodate both high-level storage of bulk materials and frequent indoor and outdoor loading and material transfer operations.

Previously, the customer used conventional counterbalance forklifts. However, their relatively large operating aisle requirements occupied significant warehouse space, limiting the number of available storage locations. At the same time, the customer needed equipment capable of handling different working environments, making equipment selection more challenging.

Key Challenges

1. Limited Storage Capacity

With a fixed warehouse area, the wide aisles required by conventional counterbalance forklifts occupied valuable space, leaving limited room for additional storage locations.

2. Complex Working Conditions

The customer handles heavy and wide palletized materials and frequently switches between indoor stacking, outdoor loading and unloading, and indoor/outdoor material transfer. A single type of conventional warehouse equipment could not efficiently cover all these applications.

3. High Cost of Multiple Equipment

Using separate equipment for indoor narrow-aisle operations and outdoor material handling would increase equipment investment, labor requirements, and maintenance costs. Frequent switching between different machines could also affect overall warehouse efficiency.

Zowell's Solution

To address these challenges, Zowell recommended a narrow-aisle racking solution combined with an articulated forklift.

The delivered forklift features:

  • Rated capacity: 2,000 kg
  • Lifting height: 6,000 mm
  • Operating aisle width: 2.3 m
  • Articulated mast steering system: 205°
  • Solid rubber tires for indoor and outdoor applications

The standard Zowell articulated forklift can achieve a maximum lifting height of up to 12.5 m and operate in aisles as narrow as 2.0 m, depending on the configuration and working conditions.

1. Narrower Aisles, More Usable Warehouse Space

By replacing the customer's conventional counterbalance forklift with an articulated forklift, the required operating aisle was reduced from approximately 3.8 m to 2.3 m.

This allows the customer to make better use of existing warehouse space without expanding the facility, creating opportunities for additional storage locations and helping relieve storage pressure.

Thanks to its articulated mast design and approximately 205° steering capability, the forklift can maneuver efficiently in narrow aisles without requiring the entire truck to make a large turning movement. This reduces unnecessary repositioning and reversing operations.

2. Designed for Heavy Loads and Multiple Applications

With a maximum capacity of 2,000 kg, the articulated forklift provides stable handling performance for heavy and wide materials.

Its design helps maintain stability during high-level stacking while reducing the risk of contact with racks and stored goods.

Unlike conventional narrow-aisle warehouse equipment, the articulated forklift can also operate across different environments. Equipped with solid rubber tires, it can handle uneven outdoor surfaces while continuing to perform indoor warehouse operations.

From high-level pallet stacking to outdoor loading, unloading, and factory-to-warehouse transfer, one forklift can cover multiple material-handling tasks.

3. One Truck, Lower Overall Operating Costs

By using one articulated forklift to cover both warehouse and outdoor material-handling requirements, the customer can reduce the need for multiple types of equipment.

This helps lower:

  • Equipment investment
  • Labor requirements
  • Maintenance costs
  • Internal equipment scheduling

At the same time, fewer equipment transfers and simpler material-handling processes can help keep inbound and outbound operations running smoothly.

One Forklift for More Possibilities

This project demonstrates how the right equipment configuration can transform existing warehouse space without requiring facility expansion.

By combining narrow-aisle storage with an articulated forklift, Zowell provides a flexible solution for customers who need both high-density warehouse storage and indoor/outdoor material handling.

With its narrow-aisle capability, high lifting performance, and versatile operating range, the Zowell articulated forklift offers a practical solution for complex logistics environments where space, efficiency, and flexibility matter.
